The Revisiting Shoei Yoh project is a research collaboration between the School of Built Environment at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and the Environmental Design School, Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. The project is investigating digital technology innovation in the preservation and promotion of architecture. The digitisation of architecturally significant buildings through 3D spatial data capture (3D scanning) and visualisation methods offers new and significant opportunities to grow audience reach and foster understandings of architecture’s cultural value and significance. We are currently 3D scanning Yoh’s living buildings and digitising archival assets to develop and populate this website to enhance access, analytical opportunities, experience, and interactivity with architectural archival materials and to engage a wider, intergenerational, and global audience. The design and development of an online and interactive digital archive and exhibition and symposium events are funded through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Australia Japan Foundation grant round 2020-21.
